The smile says it all. Two nice snapper caught at Batemans Bay during a family visit combined with a south coast charters reef / deep sea fishing trip.
Snapper can exceed 20 kilos and 1.3 metres in length in Australian waters, although this size is extremely rare (and probably only achieved by 50 years of age) Snapper are slow growing fish. Despite views to the contrary, more large snapper are taken by recreational anglers from inshore waters than by professional fisherman working offshore. Snapper can be found from about Cape Manifold in Queensland south along the coast of New South Wales across Victoria, South Australia and north along the Western Australian coast north to about Coral Bay. Their numbers are fewer in Tasmanian waters.
The price that Snapper brings at fish markets (or restaurants) reflect their value as table fare. They are excellent eating and will not disappoint, regardless of the cooking method.
